Our process
What actually happens on the job
Most of what separates a slab that lasts from one that cracks happens before any concrete arrives. Here is how we do it, start to finish.
-
01
We come out and quote it
We look at the site, talk through what you are after, and recommend the finish that will actually work for the space. The quote is free, there is no obligation, and it is usually back with you within 24 hours.
-
02
Site preparation
Excavation, compaction and levelling of the base. On the sand down here this is the step that decides whether a slab stays flat, and it is the one most often rushed. A slab is only ever as good as what is underneath it.
-
03
Moisture barrier, formwork and steel
A moisture barrier goes down, formwork is set up to hold the shape and the levels, and steel reinforcement mesh is laid before anything is poured. Thickness and reinforcement are matched to what the slab has to carry.
-
04
The pour
Concrete goes down, gets screeded flat and worked to the levels set in the formwork. This is the part with no second chances, which is why the prep matters as much as it does.
-
05
The finish
This is where the look happens, and it depends what you have chosen. Exposed aggregate is washed back to reveal the stone. Honed concrete is ground with progressively finer diamond tooling until it is smooth and consistent. Liquid limestone is laid and textured.
-
06
Sealing
A high-quality penetrating sealer goes on to protect against staining, bring out the colour, and stand up to the UV and salt air down here. Sealing is not optional on a decorative finish, it is what keeps it looking like it did on day one.
