Why the ground down here changes the job
The coastal strip south of Perth is sand over limestone, and that dictates a lot about how a slab has to be built. Sand moves. It drains fast, which is useful, but it also means the base has to be properly excavated and compacted rather than simply levelled, or the slab will settle unevenly in its first couple of summers.
Being close to the coast matters too. Salt-laden air is hard on steel, so reinforcement needs the right cover depth, and sealers have to be chosen for UV and salt rather than picked off the shelf. Cutting either of those corners does not show up on handover day. It shows up in three years.
None of that is exotic. It is just the difference between a slab that is poured and a slab that is built for where it is going.
