Concreters in Pinjarra and the Peel

New Erra comes out to Pinjarra, South Yunderup, North Dandalup and Serpentine. Blocks out here are often bigger, so along with driveways there are more shed slabs, hardstands and long runs of concrete, and the Shire of Murray pays part of the cost of a new crossover.

A recent job in North Dandalup

Corey finished this exposed aggregate pool surround in North Dandalup recently. The concrete wraps the pool and runs back to the house, with paddock and gum trees on the other side of the pool fence.

The mix is Ledge Point White from Heidelberg Materials: white and cream stone with black and amber flecks through it. A light mix stays cooler underfoot than a dark one, which counts around a pool.

The Shire of Murray crossover subsidy

In Pinjarra, South Yunderup and North Dandalup the council is the Shire of Murray. The landowner is responsible for building and maintaining the crossover, and the Shire pays a subsidy of 50% of the works value, up to $250.

Two things catch people out:

  • The application has to go in within six months of the crossover being built.
  • It needs the contractor's receipt or other proof of payment, so keep the invoice.

Shed slabs and hardstands on bigger blocks

A shed slab carries far more than a path. Vehicles, machinery and the shed frame all load it, so the ground has to be properly prepared and compacted and the reinforcement matched to what will sit on it. Getting the size and position right before the pour also saves fitting a shed to a slab that is slightly out.

Hardstands for trailers, boats and caravans follow the same logic: built for weight, with a fall that moves water away.

Long driveways

On a semi-rural block the driveway can be the biggest single piece of concrete on the property. A long run needs its joints placed so the slab cracks where it is meant to, and falls planned along its whole length so water does not sit or wash out the edges.

Serpentine

Serpentine comes under the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale rather than Murray, and it has its own crossover rules. Check with that Shire before building across the verge.

The work we do out here

The other photos on this page are more examples of Corey's work. Every job is quoted on site, so the finish, the falls and the verge rules are sorted before anything is poured.

Council rules are from the Shire of Murray website and can change, so check the Shire of Murray page before you build. Questions? Ring Corey on 0409 141 617.
