Concreters in Secret Harbour and Port Kennedy
New Erra is based in Secret Harbour, so Port Kennedy, Golden Bay and Karnup are close to home. Most jobs down here are driveways, alfrescos and pool surrounds, and the part of a driveway that crosses the verge has to meet the City of Rockingham's rules.

A recent job in Karnup
Corey finished this honed concrete alfresco in Karnup recently. It runs from the sliding doors under the main roof out under a gable patio, one smooth floor from the house to the yard. The colour is Magnolia, from Holcim.
Karnup is in the City of Rockingham as well, so the crossover, rebate and stormwater rules further down this page apply there too.

The verge crossover needs City approval first
The strip of driveway between your boundary and the road is the crossover, and it sits on City land. The City of Rockingham asks for an application before it is built, either on its form or by emailing your plans.
These are the rules that most often change a driveway design, from the City's own answers on driveways:
- The crossover can be up to 7m wide, or 10m including the flared wings.
- Wings are ideally 1.5m each side, and never less than 1m.
- It must sit at least 75mm higher at your boundary than at the road, so rain runs away from the house.
- The existing footpath stays. It cannot be removed to make way for the crossover.
- Everything, wings included, must be at least 3m from a street tree trunk and 1m from power poles, pits and other services.
- A second crossover needs at least 20m of frontage.
There is a rebate on a standard crossover
The City pays up to 50% of the cost of a single width concrete crossover, 3.5m wide, at a rate it sets from commercial construction prices. The crossover has to meet the City's residential crossover specification to qualify, so it is worth building to it from the start rather than finding out afterwards.
Where the water goes on a bigger slab
A wide driveway or alfresco sends a lot of rain somewhere. The City requires all stormwater to be kept within your own block, using soakwells or spoon drains, and a soakwell has to sit at least as far from buildings and boundaries as it is deep. On a smaller lot that can decide which way the falls on a new slab need to run.
Right on the coast
Secret Harbour and Port Kennedy sit on the ocean, so salt air and hard sun are part of every job. That is a big part of why exposed aggregate is so common here: the stone surface hides sand and wear, gives grip around a pool, and a sealer chosen for UV keeps the colour from going chalky.
The work we do out here
The other photos on this page are more examples of Corey's work. Every job is quoted on site, so the finish, the falls and the verge rules are sorted before anything is poured.
Council rules are from the City of Rockingham website and can change, so check the City of Rockingham page before you build. Questions? Ring Corey on 0409 141 617.
